Virtual Reality Playground and VR Learning at ELI 2017

In early February Digital Bodies is headed to the EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative (ELI) Annual Meeting in Houston, Texas. The theme for this year’s meeting is Transforming the Academy: Building Communities of Practice. We have an exciting schedule from Monday, February 13 – Wednesday 15 as we are hosting a series of Virtual Reality Playground sessions and two short hands-on workshops.

On Monday, we will be participating along with other university teams in the ELI Virtual Reality Playground. Look for us in the Houston Ballroom Foyer between 2:15 and 3pm. Here is the description for our session:

Join us for ELI’s first Virtual Reality Playground where we explore the impact of new immersive media developments on learning. This session will feature mobile virtual reality experiences that span from biology and health to history, the social sciences and innovative forms of journalism. Explore the fascinating potential of deeply immersive experiences to engage students and create compelling learning opportunities across educational programs.

Virtual Reality and Learning Workshops

Virtual Reality and learning has been gaining momentum in the Higher Education conversations. On Tuesday, Maya Georgieva and Emory Craig will lead two theme oriented short hands-on workshops. NMC Horizon Report for Higher Education

On Wednesday, Maya Georgieva will participate in a panel featuring the release of the signature NMC Horizon Report 2017 for Higher Education. Maya is on the NMC Expert Panel for Higher Education and along with her colleagues Veronica Diaz, David Thomas and Bernard Bull will discuss insights from the 2017 Horizon Report.

Horizon Report 2017: Trends, Challenges, and Technology

Join the New Media Consortium and the EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative for the official release of the Horizon Report 2017 for Higher Education. The report is the result of a longtime collaboration between these two organizations and is released at the ELI Annual Meeting in this special session each year. Join us in this session to explore the trends, challenges, and emerging technologies that will be impacting higher education teaching and learning over the next five years. In the session, we’ll also be announcing the winners of the Horizon Report Video Competition.
